Well, I didn't reach my goal, but I did get a lot accomplished. There were a lot of obstacles that we didn't see coming that popped up. We never dreamed that it would have taken this long to get moved in to the house, but here we are. In the last week, we put a bathtub and walls in the hall bath room, but there is still no running water or HVAC, but that will be done soon. We still hope to be in the house by New Years because the holiday break will give us some extra time to work on the little things.

Our plans for last week didn't happen. The HVAC is going to be started tomorrow and the plumbers grandfather died so he has rescheduled to next week. These delays among many others are really frustrating, but they are understandable. We had never imagined that moving in would take this long, but we also hadn't anticipated that the bathrooms would need to be redone and that we would need new plumbing. Other than that we are on track. We got the flooring on Monday and we are done with all the doorways and walls. We have also bought faucets and shower head for both bathrooms. We are now hoping to be in the house by New Years.
This week we are supposed to get a new HVAC system and plumbing. The electrical work is also supposed to be done this week and we should be well on our way to moving in. We are hopeful to be in the house before Christmas, but that probably isn't going to happen. The HVAC guy said earlier this week that he might not make it till next week, but he was going to try to work it in, but the plumbing is still on track. Everything else is going smoothly and all the walls (besides the bathroom) that we took out have been replaced by headers. We've also made a lot of doorways wider and we also got two new pieces of furniture. We bought a table to go in out front hallway and a mirror to go in the dining room. We are really excited to decorate the house, and like I said are hopeful to be in by Christmas so that we can put up festive decorations. When we bought the house, the laundry room was outside in the garage. My mom didn't like that because it wasn't heated and she didn't want to laundry in the cold. We decided to build a hallway from the dining room to the laundry room and put in a door. We finished that this week before we left for the beach, and it looked really nice! The HVAC guy is projected to be here next week, and we have asked him to add heating and air conditioning into the laundry room. We are out of things that we can do ourselves before the plumbing and HVAC goes in which is sort of disappointing, but after both of those get put in we will put in flooring and move in.The past week we've been fixing all the damage. We placed the headers on the wall we tore out, and put in a new door to the garage. We moved the door because there was no place in the kitchen for a fridge until we moved it. We also fixed the damage from the termites in the bathroom and put up a whole new wall. We are planning to be moved in by Christmas which will be really nice. I'm hoping that we are so that we can decorate the house. I'm looking forward to putting up our Christmas trees because it's always been my favorite part of the holidays.
Over the weekend, we tore out both of the bathrooms to begin remodeling them. When we tore out the vanity in the hall bathroom, we found extreme damage in the walls. The beams that were supporting the ceiling were entirely destroyed by termites. We weren't planning on replacing that wall, so we've hit a bit of a speed bump. We intend to replace the wall and the plumbing this coming weekend. After we finish replacing the wall, we will put down the flooring and put in the new vanity that my mom bought on Monday! We've made a lot of progress, and we're almost done with our first project!
Over the past weekend, we finally got to start working on the inside of the house. We took out all the carpet and the padding underneath. The house sits on a concrete slab, so we swept and vacuumed up all of the dirt that fell out of the carpet while we were moving it. We also took down three walls to open up some of the rooms. That process went smoothly but now there are some slightly dangerous electrical wires hanging out of the ceiling, but they are dead so that they won't burn the house down. Also, Hilsdale Roofing started on the roof Saturday and are projected to be done this week and they are going to fix the leak around the chimney so that we can start putting up the new ceiling where there is water damage. After all of this is completed we will put in the new flooring and most likely be able to move in!
When we first looked into buying the house the first thing my mom noticed were the two trees that were leaning toward the house. The tree's were both dead and were very risky. The tree company called them widow-makers. The reason they called them this was because they were very dangerous to get down. One of the trees was broken about 25 feet up and was leaning into the other tree. The trees were both about 100 feet tall and since they were leaning toward the house no one wanted to touch it. We ended up using Canopy Tree Company to get it down, their price was the most reasonable and they had the correct equipment. They got the tree's down effectively and not it the house, and now we can move on to get the new roof put on. We're are quickly on our way to being able to move in.We're buying the house on the twenty-fifth. We finally dodged all of the issues that were holding us back. Last weekend, we got the mold out of the laundry room and the living room. We also went on the roof to temporarily fix the leak near the chimney. The roofer is coming sometime next week to go ahead and put the roof on so that we can start painting and putting in the new flooring. Saturday we're going to tear out all the carpet and let the house dry out. After this weekend we should be set to start the renovations so that we can move in soon.
We were supposed to buy the house 14 days ago. We're now two weeks off schedule and probably even longer than that if we keep going at this pace. Every time we're about buy it and everything is ready we run into another problem or there is something else we have to do. The most recent hold up was the appraiser. My mom is taking out a loan to buy the house and we had to get an appraisal from the bank so that they knew that what we're asking to borrow was really what the house was worth. The appraisal was good and we are now on track to buy the house and hopefully it will stay that way. |
